The 'paste' d melia "(their name in Piedmontese dialect) come from rural tradition that has forwarded the recipe till today.

The Paste di meliga are traditionally produced in the area of Mondovì (near Cuneo in the south of Piedmont) and in the surrounding mountains, where it been also created a dedicated Slow Food presidium.

The recipe for these typical Piedmont sweets has spread in Barge, in the Susa valley and even in the province of Biella.

In the area of the Barge Paste di meliga biscuits are called "Batiaje" because they were 
eaten during the baptisms, in the Piedmontese dialect precisely: to baptize = Fe Batie.
